LETTER: B.C.'s 'safe' supply approach is misguided

People with addictions aren't getting the help they need, this writer says

Editor,

The government-sponsored addiction program is doing so well in British Columbia. Since the government decided to open up "safe" injection sites and to provide a "safe" supply of drugs to addicts, the annual overdose deaths have risen from 529 in 2015 to 2,511 in 2023 — now that's progress! And yet the government insists that these programs are saving lives.

And the latest "advancement" is to (because, I guess, the "safe" injections sites are just not convenient) — free of charge and with no proof that the recipient is not just selling the material on.

The "expert" who came up with the term "safe" drugs is probably the same person who used the term "recreational" drugs. The only entities that are benefiting from this misguided approach are the companies supplying the materials and the "safe" drugs.

Certainly, the addicts are not getting the institutional help or treatment that they need.
