Cranbrook鈥檚 India Sherret captured gold Friday, the final day of World Cup ski cross racing competition.
Ottawa鈥檚 Hannah Schmidt earned bronze despite a crash with teammate Brittany Phelan, of Mont-Tremblant, Que., who placed fourth.
The two Canadians did not finish the race and were tended to by medical personnel on the course.
Fanny Smith of Switzerland claimed silver.
鈥淚 am super happy with the win, but 鈥 I am a little bit frazzled. With the two girls that went down, it鈥檚 hard not to be concerned about them,鈥 Sherret said after the race. 鈥淚 saw Brit ski down, but obviously, I am worried about Hannah. Hopefully, they are OK 鈥 and after that, I will let myself be happy.鈥
This result marked a reverse of Thursday鈥檚 final, where Schmidt took gold, Smith earned silver, and Sherret finished with bronze.
The victory, Sherret鈥檚 third of the season, moved her into first place in the overall standings, ahead of Germany鈥檚 Danielle Maier. Teammate Marielle Thompson, of Whistler, B.C., is third.
鈥淚鈥檝e been doing a pretty good job of skiing relaxed, knowing my plan and executing,鈥 Sherret said. 鈥淭his is my first time leading the overall standings so I鈥檓 pretty excited, but trying not to spend too much time thinking about it as I know I need to keep focus on my racing.鈥
Toronto鈥檚 Kevin Drury collected bronze in Friday鈥檚 men鈥檚 final, finishing behind Youri Duplessis Kergomard of France. Simone Deromedis of Italy earned silver.
鈥淚t was pretty rough and rowdy out there and I was having fun,鈥 said Drury. 鈥淚鈥檓 really proud of my mental attitude which was to just send it and I was in that flow state where things felt slow, but were fast.鈥
Kris Mahler, of Canmore, Alta., finished ninth and Ottawa鈥檚 Jared Schmidt finished 23rd.
