Last January at Enver Creek's gym, Tamanawis Wildcats came close to winning both Senior and Junior championships at the all-ÐÔÊӽ紫ý boys RCMP Classic, until Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers ruined the party for the Newton school.

The junior Wildcats won 66-58 over Grandview Heights. Later, Tweedsmuir beat Tamanawis in overtime, capping another Classic in dramatic fashion.

Over the years, the tournament has been an annual showcase of top boys basketball talent in ÐÔÊӽ紫ý.

This year, 48 ÐÔÊӽ紫ý school teams — 24 Senior, 24 Junior â€” are competing at the tournament, first played in 1991 to assist student athletes with scholarships and connect young basketball players with the local police community.
