Shane Boyes won $500,000 playing Lotto Max.

A Maple Ridge man has won half a million dollars by playing Lotto Max.

Shane Boyes was busy fixing some odds and ends, when he discovered that he matched 4/4 Extra numbers from the December 31, 2024 Lotto Max draw, winning the $500,000 prize.

鈥淚 was in my garage at my work bench,鈥 recalled Boyes. 鈥淚 was eating pretzels and decided to check my ticket on my Lotto! App on my phone. I just couldn鈥檛 believe it. I had to check about 100 times."

Boyes immediately called his wife to share the news.

鈥淎t first, I told her that there was an emergency and that she needed to come home. Once she came home, I told her and she was just in shock,鈥 he said.

Boyes purchased the winning ticket at FreshCo at 202 Street and Dewdney Trunk Road in Maple Ridge.

Boyes is excited about the new opportunities the money will open up to him and he added that he is 鈥渟till digesting the win."

When asked how it feels to win the lottery he replies, "enlightened".

According to the B.C. Lottery Corporation, last year more than $54 million in winnings from the Extra were redeemed across the province, and more than $132 million from Lotto Max.
