A man wanted in connection with a violent June 16 sexual assault in South ÐÔÊӽ紫ý has been arrested.
Police announced Monday 23-year-old Dardan Elbasani was arrested in a Niagara Falls, On., casino over the weekend, by officers with ÐÔÊӽ紫ý RCMP's Serious Crimes Unit.
Investigators "worked tirelessly" on the case, Supt. Bill Fordy said in a statement. "They used every investigative technique available to them, working seamlessly with partners in Ontario including the Peel Regional Police and the Ontario Provincial Police. This was a fantastic example of police agencies from across the country working together on short notice."
The incident occurred in Southmere Village Park early June 16, when a woman out for a walk was assaulted by a man who emerged from the bushes. The assailant fled after the woman screamed continually.
Elbasani – who was also wanted on outstanding warrants in ÐÔÊӽ紫ý, White Rock and Langley – is charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm. He is expected to appear in ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Provincial Court this week.
