B.C. man killed in motorcycle crash in Washington State

B.C. sheriff Freddy Blondel killed after bike collided with an SUV

A Maple Ridge man has been killed in a motorcycle crash in Washington State.

On Sunday, June 23, Freddy Blondel was riding in Skagit County when his bike collided with an SUV.

"A 2007 Suzuki motorcycle ridden by a 57-year-old Maple Ridge, B.C., man was southbound on Chuckanut Drive and a 2016 Honda CR-V driven by a 70-year-old Bow woman was northbound when the Honda turned left and struck the motorcycle," reports the Whatcom News.

An air ambulance was dispatched, but Blondel died at the scene.

Failure to yield the right-of-way was cited by police as the cause of the crash. No drugs or alcohol were found to be involved.

Friend Sonia Pereira is organizing an online fundraiser for his wife Lucy, to help relieve financial stress for funeral expenses and time off work. She shared a social media post by Lucy:

"He was the most genuine, kind, sweet, charismatic, selfless goofball you could ever meet. He was my adventure buddy and riding partner, he let me be who I was with no judgment."

She said they recently celebrated their second wedding anniversary.

"He was my biggest supporter and my number one fan. He loved his family and friends so deeply and would do anything for anyone."

"Everyone from his hairdresser to his high-up bosses in the police had love for him, he was quite simply a stellar human being and led with kindness and positivity in any situation."

The BC Sheriff Service Chief Paul Corrado also acknowledged the loss.

"He represented our service honourably, was a friend to all and will be missed by all who had the honour of knowing him. On behalf of our service, I extend my condolences to his family, friends, and community."
