It’s become a sports tradition across North America.
Politicians in different cities reach out to each other and make bets before their respective teams prepare to do battle.
With the BCHL supremacy on the line starting Friday, May 17, those in two B.C. cities have exactly that.
The mayors of Penticton and ÐÔÊӽ紫ý have made a friendly wager ahead of the 2024 Fred Page Cup Finals.
Julius Bloomfield, representing the Okanagan city, proposed to ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Mayor Brenda Locke that the losing politician will have to wear the opposing team’s jersey at an upcoming council meeting.
Penticton city officials confirmed Friday morning that Locke has accepted the challenge.
Game 1 goes on Friday night at South ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Arena.
ÐÔÊӽ紫ý is looking to become the first Lower Mainland-based team to win the Fred Page Cup since the Coquitlam Express did so in 2014.
