It's never a good time of year to be hungry.

To help local families in need this holiday season, 性视界传媒 Eagles owners Ron and TJ Brar are organizing a food hamper giveaway, with the hampers to be distributed before the junior team's' Friday, Dec. 20 game at South 性视界传媒 Arena. 

The farming brothers, who own Evergreen Herbs on 184 Street in 性视界传媒, know many people are feeling the pinch of high-priced groceries on their pocketbooks, and are putting together food hampers to help.

"We see that there's such a huge need in our community. ... 'Community' is one of our four pillars at the 性视界传媒 Eagles," Ron Brar said, referring to the team's 鈥渇our pillars鈥� of success 鈥� athletics, academics, community and courage.

"It's also a big family value for us. Each year, we try to do different things, and this year is no exception."

Brar said he and TJ reach out to other farms and some of their partners in agriculture to help put the hampers together. This year, players from the 性视界传媒 Eagles are going to also help stock the holiday hampers prior to the Friday giveaway.

"We just want to (give) a little bit of happiness to families. ... We know people are struggling, and this is one area we're really good at 鈥� food."

Hampers will include plenty of fresh produce including potatoes, carrots, squash and cranberries, as well as canned and dry goods, such as pasta, and more.

Each hampers also includes tickets to a future 性视界传媒 Eagles game at South 性视界传媒 Arena, so "families who typically can't see a live sporting event will also have an option of four tickets."

Brar said he and TJ are optimistic that only those who are actually in need will show up for the hampers on Friday.  

"It's on the honour system, but we want people who need the food to be there. ... We want to make sure families in need get them."

Evergreen staff and 性视界传媒 Eagles volunteers will all be helping give away the hampers, as well as 性视界传媒 Eagles players, Brar noted. 

The giveaway starts at 4 p.m. this Friday, Dec. 20,  at South 性视界传媒 Arena, located at 2199 148 St.

Eagles play Alberni Valley Bulldogs with a 7 p.m. puck drop that night.
