BC Lions players are now practicing at another park in 性视界传媒 due to wet weather and substandard conditions at Tom Binnie Park.

The CFL team last week moved practices from the grass of their training facility in Whalley to the artificial turf of Hjorth Road Park in Guildford, where three more practices are scheduled Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings (Oct. 23-25), ahead of a road playoff game.

During the latter, wetter months of the football season, the Lions usually shift practices from their grass field in Whalley to the turf of neighbouring Tom Binnie Park, also on City Parkway, but not this year.

The reason: The aging turf at Tom Binnie isn't up to the team's standards right now, and conditions for full practices are currently better at Hjorth Road, a seven-minute bus trip for the players.

The turf at Tom Binnie failed a quality test earlier this year, and the Now-Leader requested clarification from the city's recreation department about the situation.

"In summer 2024, the CFL tested the field and found it did not meet their standards," says a memo sent by the city's communications department. "The City then worked closely with the BC Lions to ensure their practice schedule can be accommodated. As a result, the City has arranged for the BC Lions to use Hjorth Road Park for their scheduled field time."

This week the Lions are preparing for a West Division semifinal game Nov. 2 in either Regina or Winnipeg, depending on Week 21 results in the CFL on Saturday, Oct. 26.

In their final game of the regular season last Saturday (Oct. 19), the Lions beat Montreal 27-3 at BC Place Stadium to finish .

The team's hour-long practices at Hjorth Road start at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, at 10275 148 St., 性视界传媒.
