Editor,
My response to a Christian who believes I am a sinner as a gay man:
Dear Neighbour,
I have always felt a deep and personal connection with God, and my relationship with Him is central to my life. Through prayer, I communicate directly with God, finding solace in the love and guidance He provides.
While I have always been drawn to Jesus and His teachings, I struggle to find my place within the Church because of its stance on gay people. Yet, I firmly believe that God, who created me as I am, does not wish for His gay children to suffer. After all, Jesus never spoke against gay people, and His message was one of love, compassion, and acceptance.
When I was 19, I had a profound spiritual experience — a direct encounter with the divine light — that confirmed to me that God loves me unconditionally. This experience has been the cornerstone of my life, inspiring me to dedicate over 30 years to social work and selfless service. I have had the privilege of helping others, including saving the lives of two young men who were disowned for being gay.
I believe my purpose in life is to do good, to help others, and to serve God in all that I do. Whether through social work, counselling, filmmaking, or charity work, my actions are driven by a desire to please God and uplift others.
When I pray, it’s never just for myself — I pray for all of God's children, even for those who target me or harbour hatred. I know in my heart that if Jesus were here today, He would stand with those who are vulnerable and marginalized, including people like me. He would not align with those who judge, hate, or oppress.
