Editor,

Re: 鈥淏.C. deserves better鈥 (Editorial, Sept.19)

I anticipate that if they form the next majority government, the B.C. Conservatives will have to admit they won鈥檛 be making quality-of-life matters any better than they are/were under the B.C. NDP. Well, no better for "the little guy," anyway; big business and the very wealthy will undoubtedly be happy.

What will be done about the unaffordability of housing and food, largely due to real-estate speculation and greed-flation, respectively. Nada! Instead, the new government will conveniently blame it all on the preceding progressive administration鈥檚 supposed irreparable damage to the economy via inflation 鈥 inflation that was essentially caused by the pandemic and being helplessly economically attached to the U.S.

What will be quite different, though, will be the thick austerity measures, mostly at the pain of those with the least. Government subsidies to already-profitable corporations will remain untouched, however, if not increased. All the while repeated will be the ambiguous and stupid-sounding catchphrase, 鈥淚t鈥檚 the economy, stupid!鈥.
