Sebastian Massabie continues to make waves in the pool after yet another record-breaking weekend.
The Paralympic swimming champion, who won gold at the 2024 Games in Paris earlier this year, participated in the Ken Demchuk International Invitational over the weekend (Nov. 29-Dec. 1) in Markham, Ont., where he broke his own world record.
Massabie, who trains at Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre in South 性视界传媒 with the Pacific Seawolves and coach Jy Lawrence, broke his own record in the men鈥檚 50-metre butterfly (S4 category) during his preliminary swim on Day 1 of the meet, noted a Swimming Canada release.
His time of 37.95 seconds shaved 0.07 seconds off his previous record, which Massabie set at the Speedo Canadian Senior Championships in July.
This marks Massabie鈥檚 fifth time lowering the world record in this event this year, the release said.
鈥淚t was really great. I was just following my race plan, which I discussed with my coach,鈥 Massabie said at the invitational.
鈥淭his meet is about seeing where I鈥檓 at, but also about getting better."
The 19-year-old had a packed schedule, competing in eight events 鈥 and finishing on the podium in six.
He was recognized as Male Swimmer of the Day on Day 2, and earned "Swim of the Meet" honours for his world-record performance in the 5-metre butterfly.
The meet marked a positive start to the new season for many of Canada鈥檚 top Para swimmers, many of whom will turn their attention to the Para Swimming World Series as they work towards next year鈥檚 World Para Swimming Championships.
