Vancouver Giants host fundraiser for California fire victims

TV celebrity owner Drew Scott will be in attendance for Friday fundraiser at Langley Events Centre

A home renovation celebrity and co-owner of the Vancouver Giants has announced a different type of fundraiser in Langley this Friday night that will help victims of the devastating wildfires in California.

Drew Scott, a television star best known for the various Property Brothers related shows along side his twin brother Jonathan, said the G-Men are hosting a chuck-a-puck during the hockey team's next home game at Langley Events Centre.

The Vancouver Giants take on the Tri-City Americans Friday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m.

Pucks can be purchased in quantities of three: three pucks for $10, with the actual chuck-a-puck will take place during the second intermission.

Proceeds from the chuck-a-puck will go directly to Home Bank LA, an extension of the non-profit A Sense of Home (ASOH) 鈥 which has perfected the systems of collecting and distributing furniture and home goods to those who need it urgently 鈥 turning empty spaces into homes, explained Scott, who is also a board member of ASOH.

The leadership at ASOH has launched Home Bank LA to harness its unique expertise and expand its reach to those who have been devastated by the fires.

鈥淧roceeds raised from the Chuck-A-Puck will help fund , which is dedicated to providing essential home items to families and individuals who have lost everything,鈥 said Scott, who grew up in Maple Ridge, but now has a home in L.A. with his wife Linda, two-year-old son Parker, and eight-month-old daughter Piper.

鈥淚鈥檓 grateful to the Vancouver Giants and my hometown community for their help in supporting the immediate needs of those impacted by the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles," shared Scott, who was spotted in town this past weekend, ahead of the game.

It's common to see Lois Phillips wandering the streets of Fort Langley, snapping pictures, and visiting with friends, neighbours, and shop owners.

But it was a surprise for her to run into Scott this past weekend in front of the candy store in the village. Phillips was over the moon that she 鈥 as a fan of the Scott twins 鈥 was able to grab a picture with the television celebrity.

"I asked him if he would mind if I took a photo with him. He gave his little boy to his friend. He said 'pass me your phone, as I鈥檓 an expert with selfies.' So I stood on my tippy toes and he bent down 鈥 as he is very tall," Phillips recounted, noting she also took the opportunity to tell him a bit about Fort Langley.

Scott is expected to be at Friday's game. According to the Giants, he's been at a couple games since joining the ownership team last season.

The Giants have two upcoming home games this weekend. In addition to Friday night's fundraising game against Tri-City, they take on the Brandon Wheat Kings on Sunday, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m.

Tickets to Friday鈥檚 game are available at for more details or call 604-4-GIANTS.

The Giants, part of the Western Hockey League, were formed in 2001 and have called the 5,276-seat Langley Events Centre home since 2016.
