Pair sentenced in fatal grow rip

Michael Gerald Larson was killed in 2007

Two men charged in connection with the 2007 death of Michael Gerald Larson have both pleaded guilty and been sentenced in ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Provincial Court.Darryl Karl Cole, 43, pleaded guilty last week to manslaughter in the beating death of Larson, who was found dead in his ÐÔÊӽ紫ý home in the 15600 block of 48 Avenue on Dec. 1, 2007. In court last Tuesday, Cole was sentenced to 13-and-a-half years in prison, minus four-and-a-half years for time already served.Cole's co-accused, Joshua Steven Holl, pleaded guilty the week prior and was sentenced to eight years in jail, minus four-and-a-half years for time served. The pair were among four people who were planning to rob a marijuana grow operation that Larson was taking care of. When they first broke into the home, Larson tried to run and was sprayed with pepper spray by Holl. Then Cole beat Larson with a bat until he was unconscious and he was tied up while the thieves stole what they wanted and left. Earlier testimony indicated Larson may have survived had he received immediate medical attention. Both Cole and Holl were arrested in 2008 and were ordered last year to stand trial on two counts each of first-degree murder and conspiracy in B.C. Supreme Court. Instead, however, they recently opted to plead guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter in provincial court.
