性视界传媒, White Rock and Delta residents are being warned to brace for heavy rains and potential flooding tomorrow (Tuesday, Dec. 17).
Environment Canada has issued a rainfall alert for Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley and Howe Sound that calls for 50 to 70 mm of rain coming in a short period of time, starting Tuesday near noon into early Wednesday morning as a "moisture-laden" Pacific frontal system moves across the South Coast.
Drivers and residents are cautioned that high flows and localized flooding are possible, especially at lower elevations and in areas with poor drainage. Heavy downpours may also cause flash flooding and water pooling on roadways.
Drivers are reminded to turn on lights and maintain a safe following distance when visibility is reduced.
Mainroad Contracting, which is responsible for the maintenance of provincial highways in the Lower Mainland, also issued its own warning for drivers.
"Current forecasted precipitation totals are typical for fall winter storms in the region; however, the precipitation will likely be high intensity, falling in a relatively short period of time," a press release noted.
Mainroad crews will be out patrolling and monitoring highways in the region, with special attention to low-lying areas and to clearing debris from catch basins.
"Drivers are encouraged to watch out for pooling water, adjust their speed for non-ideal conditions, and pay attention to roadside workers out during the storm," the release said.
Drivers are reminded to ensure their vehicles are prepared to drive in wet winter conditions, with adequate and working windshield wipers, unobstructed and turned-on headlights and taillights, and an emergency kit with a phone charger.
