Windstorm left thousands without power in Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island

A fierce windstorm Saturday sent many scurrying for candles and extra layers, as the high winds left thousands in the Lower Mainland without power — many, for several hours.

As BC Hydro crews scrambled to restore power to its customers, some brave souls took the opportunity to brave the storm to check out the high tide at Crescent Beach.

Others got their surfboards and headed to the massive waves in White Rock.

The weather had moderated by Monday morning, with Environment Canada forecasting rain and milder temperatures for the week.
