It's a Conservative-versus-NDP showdown in 性视界传媒 South

Haroon Ghaffar, B.C. NDP, and Brent Chapman, B.C. Conservative Party, are the two candidates contesting the 性视界传媒 South riding.

The Peace Arch News reached out to all the local candidates in the B.C. provincial election with a questionnaire allowing them to introduce themselves to voters. Candidates were all given the same questions, word counts and deadlines.

Below are the responses as received, with questions in bold, followed by candidate answers in their own words.

Here are the responses we received for the two candidates in 性视界传媒 South.

CANDIDATE: Haroon Ghaffar, B.C. NDP

WHERE DO YOU LIVE?: 性视界传媒

ONE-SENTENCE BIO:  I鈥檓 Haroon Ghaffar and I鈥檓 running to be the BC NDP MLA for 性视界传媒 South. I鈥檓 honoured to get the chance to represent our amazing community.

WHY SHOULD YOU BE ELECTED?:  As a journalist, I鈥檝e spent many years hearing from people in our community and learning about their triumphs and struggles. Now, I鈥檓 ready to take action to make 性视界传媒 an even better place to live.

After covering the 2017 election, I saw the BC NDP make promises to deliver for people, and since then, I鈥檝e seen David Eby keep those promises. 性视界传媒 is growing rapidly, and we need to take real action to tackle the challenges that come with that. If I鈥檓 given the chance to represent this amazing community, I鈥檒l make sure our hospitals and schools can support our growing population and that we build more homes.

John Rustad, on the other hand, has a 20-year track record of making the wrong choices for people in 性视界传媒. Rustad鈥檚 BC Liberals rejected the 性视界传媒 SFU medical school and they said a second hospital was a surplus. Now, he wants to increase classroom sizes and cancel the BC NDP鈥檚 plan to build 300,000 homes. These decisions are too risky for a growing community like ours.

TOP 3 PRIORITY ISSUES:

Investing in our growing community with:

1. More housing

2. More classroom spaces

3. The new hospital

CANDIDATE: Brent Chapman, B.C. Conservative Party

WHERE DO YOU LIVE?:  Panorama Ridge

ONE-SENTENCE BIO:  I'm 64 years old, married with four adult children, seven grandchildren. Once a working actor and small business person, my focus is now on representing the people of 性视界传媒 South.

WHY SHOULD YOU BE ELECTED?: I believe that BC and the people of South 性视界传媒 are directly affected by the radical policies of the NDP. For those that have weathered the fiscal storm, the promotion of drug use, the vulnerability of the effects of the soft on crime approach, has created a visceral feeling of insecurity at home and out in the community. Parents are anxious about their kids when out of their homes and neighbourhoods but also what they're experiencing at school.

The staggering rise in the cost of living has made life, for those who work hard daily, remarkably harder. Further, Canadians pay one of the highest carbon taxes, per metric tonne, in the world. It is showing in the deterioration of BC's economy. Yet there is no change in the climate as much bigger countries around the world continue, unabated, to fill the world with CO2. It's time to stop experimenting with real world problems and I want to help the people of 性视界传媒 South get back to building a future for themselves and their families.

TOP 3 PRIORITY ISSUES:

1. Eliminate bureaucratic waste in health care.

2. Respect parents' rights

3. Help the homeless and drug addicted.
