A 性视界传媒 Police Service Gang Crime unit seized a firearm and a loaded magazine following a traffic stop in east Newton late on Jan. 16, according to an SPS media release issued Friday.
Two men in the vehicle were also arrested in the incident, which took place around 11 p.m.
Officers in the unit were conducting proactive patrols in the area and stopped a vehicle that was seen driving erratically near the intersection of 140 Street and 78 Avenue.
A search of the vehicle turned up two knives, a firearm magazine loaded with .22 calibre rounds, and an unloaded .22 calibre rifle that had been "heavily modified to resemble the size of a handgun".
The release said both driver and passenger are known to police.
They were arrested but subsequently released on an undertaking pending further investigation and potential consideration of criminal charges by the BC Prosecution Service.
The firearm will be submitted for forensic testing.
