Raj Veauli is the latest candidate vying to represent Delta North in the legislature following this fall's provincial election.
The Conservative Party of BC announced Veauli's candidacy on Thursday (July 10), calling him a "dynamic individual with a diverse background" who brings a "wealth of experience and steadfast commitment to service."
"Raj is a respected leader in both business and community circles, fostering countless business and community relations over the years," according to a bio posted to the Conservative Party of BC's website.
"With over two decades of leadership experience in prominent roles at Staples Canada, Hudson’s Bay, and Future Shop, Raj has honed his skills in innovative thinking, work ethic, and entrepreneurial spirit."
Veauli — who according to LinkedIn is a general manager with Staples Canada, where he has worked for nearly 20 years — holds a bachelor of engineering degree, an advanced diploma in web designing and programming, and a real estate licence, according to his bio. He also currently serves on the board of directors at Laxmi Narayan Mandir, a Hindu temple in ÐÔÊӽ紫ý.
"Raj’s genuine care for his community is evident through his meaningful contributions to educational initiatives and youth developmental programs. He is a pillar of the community and a true voice of the people, known for going above and beyond for everyone," his bio states.
"Raj believes in prioritizing economic prosperity, sustainable development and community empowerment, aiming to see his community flourish. His robust entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to enriching the lives of those around him make him a compelling candidate for office."
Veauli is the third candidate so far to throw their hat in the ring. North Delta businessman announced his candidacy under the BC United banner on April 11, and Housing Minister announced his intention to seek a third term as MLA for Delta North on May 4.
So far no one from the BC Green Party has declared their intention to run in Delta North, nor have representatives from other parties or any independent candidates.
In late January, Delta South MLA Ian Paton announced he would once again seek re-election under the BC United banner, and so far he is the only candidate to step forward in that riding.
Both the BC NDP and Conservative Party of BC have said they intend to run a full slate of 93 candidates in the next provincial election, which takes place on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024.
Candidate nominations with Elections BC close at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28.
