April date set for ÐÔÊӽ紫ý's huge Vaisakhi parade in Newton

Parade attendees are given free food and drink during the day-long celebration

Now billed as the world's largest Khalsa Day (Vaisakhi) parade, ÐÔÊӽ紫ý's 2025 gathering will be held Saturday, April 19, event organizers announced Monday.

The annual event celebrates one of the most significant days on the Sikh calendar, the creation of the Khalsa in 1699.

Last April an estimated 550,000 people filled streets of Newton for the Khalsa Day event, or nagar kirtan, starting at Gurdwara Sahib Dasmesh Darbar temple, 12885 85 Ave. The day-long parade starts and returns there, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., travelling along 124 Street, left on 75 Avenue, to 128 Street.

Parade attendees are given free food and drink from hundreds of local residents and businesses. Anyone wanting to serve food must obtain a , via surreyvaisakhiparade.com, where are also done.

"The event welcomes people of all cultures and communities who come together in this communal gathering of understanding, sharing, and goodwill," the website says.

"For many thousands of years, Vaisakhi has been the time when farmers have put their sickles to harvest and celebrated the coming of a new year.  Since , the  have had a further reason to celebrate at this time of the year. Now  is celebrated with even more energy, pomp and fanfare."
