Editor,

The fossil fuel industry claims that natural gas is a clean fuel, that will do much to save the world from global warming. It is a big, fat, rotten lie!

Way back in 2011, a study at Cornell University stated that 鈥渆xtracting natural gas from the Marcellus Shale could do more to aggravate global warming than mining coal.鈥

In 2016, a worldwide independent study was conducted by Harvard University and many other institutions, utilizing satellite imagery and ground measurements. This study found that in the 12 years after the commencement of high-volume fracking in the U.S., the amount of methane gas in the global atmosphere had increased by 30 per cent.

A new Cornell study, published Oct. 3, 2024, in Energy Science & Engineering, states that, when processing and shipping are taken into account. liquefied natural gas leaves a greenhouse gas footprint that is 33 per cent worse than coal.

Politicians who repeat the lie, whether through ignorance or dishonesty, are not serving their constituents!
