A South 性视界传媒 boy managed to squeeze a lot of good out of people over the BC Day long weekend 鈥 $670 worth, in fact.

That鈥檚 how much money six-year-old Zach Young raised for Vancouver鈥檚 baby Lucy, by selling lemonade at a stand outside his Morgan Creek home Aug. 2 and 3.

After attending a July car-wash fundraiser for Lucy Van Doormaal 鈥 a Vancouver infant who requires Zolgensma, one of the world鈥檚 most expensive drugs, to fight a rare genetic disorder 鈥 Zach decided he wanted to help, too, said his mom, Jenn Y0ung, via email.

Already planning to open a lemonade stand, Zach decided the proceeds 鈥 he鈥檇 initially hoped to raise $100 鈥 should be put toward purchasing four-month-old Lucy鈥檚 medicine 鈥渢o help her get better.鈥

With some assistance from his 鈥楴onno鈥 (grandpa) Zach, who will enter Grade 1 at Morgan Elementary in September, built a little white lemonade stand. He added a few black-and-yellow signs and a pair of colourful chairs, and went to work raising money for the Van Doormaal family鈥檚 page.

鈥淶ach wanted to include lots of special 鈥榯ouches鈥 so we had gumballs, cookies and a special draw for homemade preserves donated by his 鈥楴onna鈥 (grandma),鈥 said Jenn.

鈥淲e also made sure that we were socially distancing and had hand sanitizer readily available.鈥

With the support of friends and family, Zach managed to raise nearly seven times his original goal.

鈥漌e were all pretty surprised at the final total and we were so happy to help,鈥 Jenn said.

Despite the resounding success of his summer business venture, Zach鈥檚 sales technique could still use a little work, quipped his mom.

鈥淗e told every potential customer, 鈥業t鈥檚 by donation, but it鈥檚 OK if you don鈥檛 have any money. You can have some for free!鈥

Meanwhile, on Saturday (Aug. 8) the Van Doormaals鈥 fundraising page 鈥 sitting at $2.46 million of its $3 million goal 鈥 included an important update:

鈥淗appy Weekend - We have some big news to share鈥UCY IS GETTING ZOLGENSMA!!鈥 the post reads.

鈥淲e don鈥檛 have a confirmed date but it will likely be early September 鈥 We are so so so grateful for every ounce of energy everyone has poured into Lucy鈥檚 fundraiser and we hope you CELEBRATE with us!鈥
