A recently completed mural at North Delta's Annieville Elementary honours the community's connection to the mighty Fraser River.

The work, which was featured in a post on the school district's website last week, extends across the upper floor of the school adjacent to 112th Street and shows various scenes of both human and natural life on the river. 

鈥淲e wanted to reflect Annieville鈥檚 history as a fishing community through the fishing boats, fisherman and salmon,鈥� Susan Parmar, principal at Annieville Elementary, said in a post on the district website.

鈥淎s we are the Annieville Seahwaks, we wanted the focal point of our mural to be an osprey. We also wanted to depict our natural surroundings with the cedar trees, mountains and river.鈥�

The mural was designed by local artist and Delta parent Garry Brookes, with ideas for the initial concept and feedback on draft designs provided by staff at the school.

Brookes painted the mural with assistance from Daria Dibrivna, using funds raised by the school鈥檚 parent advisory council.

According to the district's post, feedback on the new mural has been "extremely positive, with sentiments expressed that it truly reflects the local community鈥檚 heritage."
