Kids can get a jump start on their summer reading at a free book fair at the North Delta Rec Centre next week.
Hosted by Delta Community Literacy and United Way鈥檚 Hi Neighbour Initiative, which helps connect community members and provide micro-grants of up to $1,000 for local community projects, the book fair aims to help support children鈥檚 literacy, which a press release notes has long been established as a critical component of lifelong learning.
鈥淯nited Way is very pleased to support this community initiative through one of our Hi Neighbour Local Love grants. This first-time event is generously supported by community volunteers and local organizations,鈥 Cathie Watters, United Way鈥檚 community builder for North Delta, said in a press release.
鈥淲e believe that literacy is the key to success, and are proud to support the children in North Delta to kick off their summer reading and add to their libraries.鈥
Kids visiting the fair can choose from hundreds of new and gently-used books 鈥 there will be selections for all ages and tastes 鈥 all for free.
The event will run from 1:30 to 4 p.m. (or as long as supplies last; quantities are limited) on Tuesday, June 11.
All children must be accompanied by an adult.
The North Delta Recreation Centre is located at 11415 84th Ave.
