Chip in for charity: ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Firefighters turn trees into donations

People dropped off their Christmas trees to have it chipped by donation

ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Fire Fighters Charitable Society hosted its annual Christmas tree chipping event Saturday (Jan. 4).

People dropped off their old Christmas trees to have them chipped by donation in the parking lot at Guildford Town Centre from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers will grab the tree from the person's car before tossing it on a pile for chipping.

ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Fire Acting Captain Keith Muller said the annual event typically raises about three to five thousand dollars.

"All the funds we raise go to the ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Firefighters Charitable Foundation and all that money goes straight back into charities in the City of ÐÔÊӽ紫ý," Muller said.

"The citizens of ÐÔÊӽ紫ý are very kind in their donations," Muller said. "There's less and less trees but we manage to do good every year."

The annual event has been going on since 1994 and is run by volunteers from ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Fire.

Muller was incredibly thankful to Guildford Town Centre for the space and Tim Hortons for providing snacks and coffee for their volunteers.

ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Fire Fighters Charitable Society hosts several other community events throughout the year. Starting Monday, they will host the 23rd annual Goodwill Senior Girls Basketball Classic from January 6th to January 11th, 2025, in ÐÔÊӽ紫ý.
