Tom Robson was the highest Canadian taken in Major League Baseball鈥檚 draft. The Toronto Blue Jays selected the right-handed pitcher from Delta in the fourth round.

With the Price is Right on TV and Major League Baseball鈥檚 draft streaming in the internet, the Toronto Blue Jays called on Tom Robson.

The Jays selected the ace of the Langley Blaze pitching staff on Tuesday morning in the fourth round of the three-day 50-round draft for North American high school, college and university baseball players.

鈥淚 was kind of shocked when it happened,鈥 explained the six-foot-four 210-pound right-handed pitcher, who was the top-ranked Canadian in the draft.

鈥淏ut now that I have realized they have picked me and I have a chance to play for them, I am really excited.鈥

He was picked 139th overall by the team he grew up idolizing.

鈥淕rowing up, the Jays were always my favourite team; I watched them play every day,鈥 Robson said.

Roy Halladay used to be his favourite player on the team, but since he was traded it is another Jays鈥 pitcher, Ricky Romero, whom he likes.

鈥(Romero) is really competitive, has a good three-pitch mix and is mean out there,鈥 Robson said. 鈥淭hat is what I like to see in a pitcher.鈥

As soon as he heard his name called on the internet 鈥 he was attempting to focus on the schoolwork he missed last month while spending a few weeks in the Dominican Republic with Canada鈥檚 junior national team 鈥 Robson immediately began jumping up and down with his friends.

He had a small party at his Ladner home on Tuesday night to celebrate.

Shortly after the draft, Robson spoke with Toronto general manager Alex Anthopoulos and other members of the organization鈥檚 front office.

鈥淭hey want to see me in a Jays uniform as soon as they can,鈥 Robson said.

In very limited action with the Blaze, Robson is 2-2 with an 0.89 earned run average. He has allowed just five runs, three of them earned, in 23.2 innings. He has also struck out 42 batters.

Robson figured he would go between rounds two and five.

Getting drafted has been a goal since Grade 9 when a scout told his parents that Robson had the talent to make it to the big leagues.

鈥淎s soon as I heard that, I stuck with it and worked my hardest, and it paid off,鈥 he said.

- The Jays also selected Robson鈥檚 Blaze teammate, short-stop Justin Atkinson in the 26th round.

Atkinson, a 性视界传媒 resident, leads the BCPBL in batting average, hitting .433 with 15 RBIs in 22 games. He has also stolen 10 bases and shows great discipline at the plate, striking out just once in 67 at-bats.

- Former North Delta Blue Jay Chase Larsson, now attending Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma, was chosen by the Atlanta Braves in the ninth round.

鈥淚t鈥檚 awesome,鈥 Larsson said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a dream come true. They (Braves) called earlier in the day and said they hoped they were the ones who drafted me.鈥

An outfielder with the Cameron Aggies, Larsson led Division Two (D2) of the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) with 29 home runs, 84 runs batted in, a 1,000 slugging percentage and 190 total bases. His .432 batting average was 11th in D2.

鈥淗e鈥檒l hit at any level, said Cameron head coach Todd Holland. 鈥淗e just has a good swing. Everyone鈥檚 worried because he鈥檚 coming from D2, but we faced guys throwing 89, 90 miles an hour. The guys that give him fits are the guys that don鈥檛 throw hard. I think he鈥檒l do great.鈥
