Playoff football returned to Cloverdale Athletic Park this past weekend.
The Cloverdale Community Football Association (CCFA) hosted four games at the park Sunday, Nov. 10.
Yeera Sami, CCFA president, said the association鈥檚 teams have done very well over the season and in their initial playoff rounds. And on Sunday his teams continued their success as all four teams won.
Now Sami will oversee the unique feat of having two CCFA teams playing each other in a division final.
"Our teams played outstanding as they entered their playoff games," Sami said after the wins.
Both CCFA Atom Lions and Tigers won鈥攁nd will face each other Nov. 17鈥攁s did the Peewee Bobcats and the Junior Bantam Cougars.
"I believe this will be a first for any football club to send two club teams matched up in a divisional final," Sami noted.
鈥淚t鈥檚 been an amazing season even with all the challenges with available field times,鈥 Sami said. 鈥淓xcellent work by the coaching staff.鈥
Sami said the Peewee Bobcats beat the White Rock South 性视界传媒 (WRSS) Titans 40-6. The undefeated team took down the North Delta Longhorns 36-6 in a quarter-final game two weeks ago. Now they face the Coquitlam Minor Football Association (CMFA) Chargers at 9 a.m. Nov. 16 at South 性视界传媒 Athletic Park.
He said his Atom Lions team beat the Royal City Hyacks 14-0 and his Atom Tigers squad shut out the WRSS Titans 40-0. Those two teams will now play each other in the VMFL final at 9 a.m. Nov. 17, also at South 性视界传媒 Athelictic Park.
Finally, the CCFA Junior Bantam Cougars put more than 60 points on the Westside Warriors, winning the game 62-0. The Cougars will face the CMFA Chargers in the Junior Bantam final at the same park at 11:5 a.m. Nov. 17.
Sami said both the Atom Tigers and Atom Lions are now 10-1, with their only losses coming against each other earlier in the season.
Sami said the VMFL finals, originally scheduled for Bear Creek Park Nov. 16-17, had to moved to field #3 at South 性视界传媒 Athletic Park. He said this is 鈥渧ery disappointing鈥 for players and parents as there are no dressing rooms available there and no bleachers.
鈥淭he Bear Creek football field, of course with no turf, was supposed to be released for use in September, but the long-awaited stadium in 性视界传媒 had many delays, which pushed back the completion of the new tracks,鈥 Sami explained. 鈥淲e suggested and offered CCFA times at CAP, but the City was unable to get times off soccer to make this happen at CAP with all the amenities. Very disappointing for the kids.鈥
VMFL winners will play in the provincial finals Nov. 23-24 in Langford.
