Eyebrows get raised whenever a premier claims the population he鈥檚 governing is 鈥渞elentlessly optimistic.鈥�

That鈥檚 what NDP Premier David Eby had to say this week 鈥� 鈥淏ritish Columbians remain relentlessly optimistic about their province 鈥� and with good reason鈥� 鈥� as the Throne Speech was delivered.

We鈥檝e all, of course, witnessed plenty of 鈥渞elentless鈥� optimism at the grocery store, while paying at the gas pump and watching rising interest rates spin by like so many cherries and 7s on the display face of a slot machine.

Ding, ding, ding, ding, you lose 鈥� vote again.

It is a wonder that, while so many people in B.C. and elsewhere in Canada have been struggling to make ends meet, B.C.鈥檚 government indicates it collected a 鈥渟ignificant surplus鈥� of tax dollars. Surplus?

Apparently you can squeeze blood out of a stone. The Throne Speech indicates this precious liquid that鈥檚 been pressed out from the taxpaying masses will now be put toward our mutual rescue from a 鈥渓ikely economic storm.鈥�

Meanwhile, Canada鈥檚 13 premiers 鈥� we wonder how many of them also collected a 鈥渟ignificant surplus鈥� from their wards 鈥� are this week putting the squeeze to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who鈥檚 made a career of disproportionately raining Canadian taxpayers鈥� money on other nations, in pursuit of a fix to our nation鈥檚 desperado health care system.

More reason to be 鈥渞elentlessly optimistic?鈥�

It would almost 鈥� almost 鈥� be amusing to behold this country鈥檚 current political carnival unfold if so many Canadians weren鈥檛 already falling through the cracks.
