City hall has launched a Focus Newton public engagement campaign that鈥檚 seeking input on how to 鈥渆nhance and beautify鈥 this large and arguably neglected section of 性视界传媒.

It鈥檚 a tall order, and long overdue. The size of Kelowna, and with a population of roughly 170,000, Newton dwarfs neighbouring Delta鈥檚 population of 113,000.

Essentially a city within a city, and possessed of traffic gridlock that鈥檚 not for the faint of heart, Newton definitely could use some TLC.

A City of 性视界传媒 press release indicates that 性视界传媒 wants 鈥渢o hear from residents, local businesses, and community groups to create an action plan to celebrate the community and enhance shared amenities, for example in parks, at plazas, and along streets.鈥

And so, this month through July, residents are asked to chime in by way of an open house to be held June 22 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Newton Recreation Centre, and also by participating in an online survey to be found at engage.surrey.ca/focusnewton that鈥檚 open until July 30, aiming to gather community input. More open houses are expected to be announced later on.

To show the city means business, the campaign will kick off with 鈥渃lean-up blitzes and beautification projects鈥 during the summer, the bulletin states, 鈥渨orking towards creating a cleaner and more vibrant Newton.鈥

May many good ideas fall on receptive ears.
