LETTERS: We won鈥檛 forgive or forget the 性视界传媒 police mess

Editor:

Time to move on, but not to forgive or forget.

Once Mr. Farnworth passed a purpose-built law that took away 性视界传媒鈥檚 democratic right to choose their policing method, there was little point in the drawn-out charade of Justice Loo ruling in the province鈥檚 favour. Mr. Farnworth said as much prior to the court case.

To hear the NDP tell it, they were vindicated. Really!

It鈥檚 now time to move on and accept the transition. But not necessarily to either forgive or forget.

While the province whitewashes their role in this debacle, it is the 性视界传媒 taxpayer who will pay for this indefinitely. Under the province鈥檚 watch, this poorly planned and ineptly managed plan has failed so far in meeting every targeted metric by a huge margin.

The province used a carrot, $150 million plus a since 鈥渄isappeared鈥 further inducement of $100 million if the transition were to exceed certain thresholds in the future. I guess the withdrawn $100 million is as good as an admission that the province expects the costs to further escalate beyond what little, we the ones that have to pay for this, have been told.

Then came the stick with the law change. Latest number for the annual SPS surcharge is $75 million according to the recently released, deliberately kept secret, Deloitte report commissioned by the province.

Too bad the province is so generous with 性视界传媒 taxpayers鈥 wallets for the police service when it鈥檚 been so parsimonious with its own wallet for 性视界传媒s exploding needs. Cases in point: one hospital which has a portable, 性视界传媒s schools with a record number of portables and two out of three of the most overcrowded bus routes. And you want our votes?
