LETTER: ÐÔÊӽ紫ý policing debacle is democracy in action

Editor,

I’m new to ÐÔÊӽ紫ý but have followed the RCMP/SPD story since its inception way back.

Here are the absolute facts of this mayoral democratic race. In the 2018 mayoral race there were eight parties running, which is the purest form of democracy right there; as many people can run as they want — that is democracy.

Doug McCallum ran on the platform of implementing this new municipal police force. Fast forward to the election results, and Doug McCallum won the race, followed through on what he campaigned on, and now here we are today.

So what’s he really guilty of? Oh no, a politician following through with what they proposed — other politicians should learn from that.

Love him or hate him, he did that. And he beat out his opposition by a considerable sum.

One could argue there were too many parties and it split the vote. OK, fine, but if you don’t want democracy, then, well, what do you want?

Now Brenda Locke has won, following through with what she said she would do, and ÐÔÊӽ紫ý residents no doubt will pay the price via tax increases. Hey, that’s democracy, and I will take democracy over the alternative any day.
