Nanaimo RCMP believe it has found body of missing teenager Chang

Police on Vancouver Island believe they鈥檝e found the body of a teen missing for more than two months.

Makayla Chang, 16, was and according to a press release from the Nanaimo RCMP, her body has been found.

鈥淣anaimo RCMP are treating this as a homicide investigation,鈥 said Cpl. Tammy Douglas, RCMP Island District spokeswoman. 鈥淭he Nanaimo RCMP do not believe the public is at risk and remain committed to advising them should the risk level change. The investigation is being led by Nanaimo Serious Crime Unit along with the assistance of other police resources. This remains a priority investigation with dedicated resources tasked with determining the circumstances surrounding the disappearance and murder of Chang.鈥

As the investigation is ongoing, Nanaimo RCMP won鈥檛 provide any further information, Douglas said.

Chang has been the subject of an and the focus of a community for the missing .

Douglas said in a brief phone interview she had no further information about where or when Chang鈥檚 body was found.

鈥淚 don鈥檛 have any of those details,鈥 Douglas said. 鈥淭his is literally all the information that I have to release at this time, but I鈥檓 sure that we鈥檒l do an update when there鈥檚 more information to release, but this is it for now.鈥
