Highway 1 westbound is open again from 232nd Street to 264th Street in Langley after being closed for most of the day due to a large crash.
Drive BC says to expect delays as traffic gets back to normal.
Photos from the scene showed a semi-truck had flipped over, with large amounts of oil on the road.
There were no life-threatening injuries from the massive collision, according to local fire department officials.
The six-vehicle pileup took place just after 9:30 a.m., said district fire chief Russ Jenkins.
The crash began with the collision of two passenger vehicles. Behind them, four trucks tried to avoid the crash, and struck each other.
鈥淭here鈥檚 four semi-trailers involved, one of them overturned and spilled its load,鈥 said Jenkins.
The trucks include a panel van, a sod trailer, an equipment hauling trailer, and a grain truck.
One driver was trapped inside the overturned semi-trailer, and a BC Air Ambulance helicopter was called for.
However, when firefighters cut the man loose from the wreckage of his truck, his injuries were not deemed life-threatening. He was taken to a hospital by ground ambulance. Three others were also taken to hospital with minor injuries.
About 400 litres of diesel fuel spilled on the road, and firefighters built a small impromptu dam to contain as much as possible. B.C. Ministry of Environment officials were expected to oversee a cleanup.
The overall cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Less than 30 minutes after that collision, another crash took place on the freeway 鈥 about 200 metres west of 264 Street. Police said that crash might or might not be connected to the earlier collision.
In the second incident, two cars were involved and three people were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The cause of both crashes is still under investigation, but speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors.
