The owners of a Korean restaurant in Harrison Hot Springs are working to recover after being hit with an act of vandalism.
The staff at Naked Chicken were "deeply saddened" to learn their restaurant had been covered in red paint earlier this month, including the sign, building and sidewalk. The restaurant was closed for an extended period at the time.
"We're currently working hard to repair and restore everything back to normal," they said via a Facebook post on an active local group. "This is a crime that should never have happened, and what's even more upsetting is that this senseless act appears to have been done without any clear motive."
Vandalism is not an especially common issue in Harrison Hot Springs. Property crime was at a five-year low last year, according to a report the local RCMP released back in March.
The standing sign that is normally on display outside the shop is also missing. The vandalism has been reported to the Agassiz RCMP.
Martin Steenblok of Steam-it Weed N Clean in Mission drove to Harrison on his own volition and at no charge to clean up as much of the vandalism as he could after he saw a photo of the damage.
The owners of Naked Chicken were thankful for the community's kindness through the ordeal.
"This has been a truly shocking and disheartening experience for us, especially because we鈥檝e always felt proud to be part of such a safe and welcoming community here in Harrison Hot Springs," they stated. "Despite this setback, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has reached out with kind words, encouragement, and support鈥攊t has meant so much to us during this challenging time."
There is no set date for the restaurant to reopen but the staff is committed to opening as soon as they can.
