Manqoosh Khan will represent the Freedom Party of BC in Delta North during this fall's provincial election.
As of press time no bio for Khan had been posted to the party's website or distributed to media, however he describes himself in various social media profiles as a Vancouver-based Canadian-Pakistani vlogger, in addition to a video creator, influencer, investor, mentor and business consultant.
The North Delta Reporter reached out to the Freedom Party of BC and twice asked for the candidate's bio and photo, but none was provided. Instead, party leader and co-founder Amrit Birring said in an email Monday afternoon (Aug. 12) that the party is in process of adding Khan's information to its website.
Overnight Wednesday, after the Reporter's press deadline, Khan's bio was posted online. It says he was born and raised in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, lived in Pakistan for an unspecified time, and spent a decade living in London, United Kingdom, where he completed his post-secondary education, earning a master鈥檚 in business administration from Liverpool John Moore University in Liverpool.
"[With] a lifetime of experience in diverse, multicultural environments, Manqoosh is uniquely equipped to represent the local community," his bio states.
"Manqoosh鈥檚 global perspective has shaped his vision for a community that thrives on different perspectives and collaboration. He鈥檚 not just talking about change 鈥 he鈥檚 lived it and is ready to bring that vision to life as your MLA."
Hi bio states he is deeply involved in the community, serving as a head coach for an unnamed soccer team and volunteering with unnamed ice hockey and football associations.
Similarly, it describes unspecified professional experience spanning "marketing, business ventures and investments," and says he is "hands-on with home renovations, provides business consultations, and has become a trusted social media influencer and life coach, offering guidance to newcomers to Canada."
Khan's bio says he is running to build a healthy, engaged and strong community by identifying and enhancing essential health and community services, creating spaces for outdoor activities, and ensuring affordable housing is available for all.
"Driven by the desire to show his two children that meaningful change begins at home, Manqoosh is committed to defending the freedoms of individuals 鈥 including medical choice, children鈥檚 rights to an education free from indoctrination, the right to affordable housing that aligns with Canadian incomes, and the need to lower taxes."
His full bio can be read at .
The party named Khan as its candidate for Delta North earlier this spring on various social media platforms, and at press time he was one of two candidates for the riding registered with (the other is incumbent BC NDP MLA ).
However, as of Friday afternoon (Aug. 9), the Freedom Party's website merely listed a "M K" as its candidate for Delta North 鈥 the only full name on the party's list of candidates was Birring, though a "J M" (perhaps party co-founder "Jay Em" mentioned in the "About" page) and "Z M" were listed as candidates in 性视界传媒-Cloverdale and 性视界传媒-Newton, respectively.
Following publication of an earlier version on this story online, Khan's name was added to freedompartybc.ca.
In an email to the Reporter, Birring explained they were using candidates' initials rather than full names on the party's website because "we are heavily under attack from some unknown forces."
"All our early candidates withdrew after we announced their names publicly," Birring wrote. "They cite personal reasons, but I think otherwise."
He said the party is now taking "a bit of [a] cautious approach" by not naming candidates until their paperwork is complete and they are registered with Elections BC.
As indicated in a Facebook post announcing Khan's candidacy in April, one of the Freedom Party of BC's primary goals is abolishing the teaching resource, which "infringes on the parents鈥 and children鈥檚 rights without their permission.鈥
According to the party's website, Birring and "Jay Em" founded the Freedom Party of BC in January of 2023 to "defend peoples鈥 rights as per our Charter [of Rights and Freedoms]."
"As we speak, both federal and provincial governments are trampling upon the rights of Canadians, be it medical freedom, religious freedom, financial freedom, or individual rights. They have reduced the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms to a mere piece of paper," the website states.
Birring's bio on the same site says he wants to provide a government that "works for the People of B.C."; to defend freedoms including "medical choice, children鈥檚 rights for a robust education free of indoctrination, [and the] right for affordable housing as per Canadian incomes"; and to lower taxes.
Other planks in the party's platform, as listed on its website, include overhauling B.C.'s Ministry of Children and Family Development to "reinforce parental rights over kids" rather than those of the government; making housing affordable, in part by ending foreign ownership; rescinding the Health Professions and Occupations Act (formerly known as Bill 36) and ensuring "all involved in COVID tyranny" are criminally prosecuted; exploring the benefits of a provincial police force; ensuring legal firearm owners are not "harassed or marginalized' by the province or "disarmed" by the federal government (noting on the website that "a civilian, once vetted, is no different from a police officer or an army officer"); banning "interference" by the World Economic Forum and "surveillance" of citizens in the form of vaccine passports, forced masking and central bank digital currencies; supporting natural resource industries; investigating "climate change deception by the authorities"; and taking action to stop perceived foreign interference, specifically by the Chinese Communist Party.
Khan candidacy brings the number of people vying to represent North Delta in the Legislature after the next provincial election, which takes place on Oct. 19, to four.
BC United's declared his candidacy in April, while Kahlon announced he would be seeking a third term in office in May and Conservative Party of BC hopeful threw his hat into the ring in July.
So far no one from the BC Green Party has declared their intention to run in Delta North, nor have representatives from other parties or any independent candidates.
Meantime, BC NDP announced Thursday (Aug. 8) transportation advocate will be the party's candidate in Delta South, challenging incumbent MLA , who announced his intention to seek a third term back in January.
To date, no other parties or candidates have stepped forward in that riding, though the Conservative Party of BC has previously said it intends to run a full slate in the upcoming election.
Candidate nominations with Elections BC close at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28.
