Delta Chamber celebrates business excellence at annual awards gala

Paragon Electrical Installations won Business of the Year; Delta Firefighters Charitable Society named Non鈥怭rofit of the Year

The best in local business was celebrated Friday night at the Delta Chamber of Commerce鈥檚 73rd annual Business Excellence Awards.

Since 1951, the Delta Chamber of Commerce has recognized outstanding business persons and organizations in Delta and Tsawwassen First Nation at the Business Excellence Awards Gala (formerly the Hats Off to Excellence Awards), presented by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority and held this year on Oct. 18 at Tsawwassen Springs. Honourees are chosen based on the criteria of professional accomplishments, leadership, initiative and community involvement.

Winners were named in five categories from previous years 鈥 Rising Star Business, Small Business of the Year, Medium Business of the Year, Large Business of the Year, and Business of the Year 鈥 and three new categories: Sustainability Award, Charitable or Non-Profit Organization of the Year, and Business Leadership Award, which replaced Citizen of the Year.

Sarah Gallop, owner of Sarah Gallop Design and Top Shelf Designs, won the inaugural Business Leadership Award. Gallop has distinguished herself as a visionary leader and dedicated community advocate, according to a bio provided by the chamber. A multi鈥恆ward鈥恮inning residential designer with over 20 years of experience, her many accolades highlight the outstanding achievements being made here in Delta.

Gallop is also an active member of the Delta community, and has made significant contributions through her involvement with various organizations including the Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation, Delta Heritage Society, and Delta Potters. Her previous roles on the Delta Heritage Advisory Design Panel, the Delta Heritage Advisory Commission, the Ladner Village Revitalization Advisory Committee and the Ladner May Days Committee showcase her commitment to preserving local heritage while embracing innovation.

鈥淪arah Gallop exemplifies exceptional leadership in our business community,鈥 Jill McKnight, executive director of the Delta Chamber of Commerce, said in a press release. 鈥淎s an innovator, she is setting new standards for excellence in her industry and elevating Delta鈥檚 profile across the province. Her commitment to community engagement, investment in talent development, and visionary leadership in design honours our heritage while building for the future.鈥

The Rising Star Business award went to Clean Slate Skin Bar in Ladner. Also up for the award were Ladner-based food truck Rat Rod Dogs, and Bar Down Cookies.

Small Business of the Year went to FlueVog Films. Also nominated were Camille's Boutique & Gallery and Vacuum Works Plus.

Double R Rentals won Medium Business of the Year over TAK Logistics and Good Hound Training and Daycare.

Coast Tsawwassen Inn took home Large Business of the Year, beating Alpine Building Maintenance Inc. and Symbiosis Pediatric Therapy Inc.

The award for Environmental Sustainability went to Labatt Breweries for its Tilbury facility. Also nominated were SIPCO Innovations Inc. and Contact Environmental Inc.

Delta Firefighters Charitable Society was honoured as Charitable/Non鈥怭rofit Organization of the Year. Heron Hospice Society of Delta and the Ladner Business Association were also nominated.

Business of the Year went to Paragon Electrical Installations Ltd. over Spray Wipe Clean and Neighbourhood Plumbing & Heating.
