Delta school trustees were asked to stand up for special needs and "grey" area students鈥攖hose not qualifying for special needs funding鈥攚hen considering their budget deliberations this spring.
In an impassioned plea at a public consultation Tuesday night (March 16), parent JoAnn McKenzie suggested trustees consider an academy for students who fall into that category.
Paul Steer, president of the Delta Teachers' Association added his wish that Delta submit a needs budget to the provincial ministry of education.
"If you believe that your role includes advocating for Delta students, then the DTA believes you have a moral obligation to submit a needs budget to the ministry each and every year," he said. "Such a budget would reflect what is needed to restore and maintain the best public education system possible for Delta students."
The next chance for public discussion on the budget is April 19 when the board will receive delegates. Trustees are scheduled to adopt the budget April 26.
All meetings are at the Delta School District offices at 4585 Harvest Drive.
