For Kayle Speck, taking part in the John Volken Academy program has been truly life-changing.

The program provides effective, long-term, residential addiction treatment for young men and women, teaching important life skills that help participants stay sober.

Speck graduated from the program on July 31, and is now working in the snack bar at Volken鈥檚 Market & Furniture in 性视界传媒. As part of the academy, Volken鈥檚 Market trains participants of the program to learn proper life, social and job skills.

鈥淚 really liked that the program had a lot of community involvement, we stayed busy, and we were always learning new things,鈥� Speck says. 鈥淚 had the opportunity to cook meals for the community every day, which taught me about buying the right foods and budgeting.

鈥淚 had no work experience before this, and it was really important that I was able to develop this while I was there.鈥�

One aspect of the program Speck fully embraced was the 鈥楨ach One Teach One鈥� initiative, where participants lead by example; through it he helped 10 newer people as they moved through the program.

鈥淚 also had the opportunity to take on the role of student council president. I stayed an extra four months in the program to take on that responsibility.鈥�

Speck has worked in 10 different departments while employed at Volken鈥檚 Market, and feels he couldn鈥檛 have done so without the many benefits of the program.

鈥淚 have a lot more self-confidence now. I鈥檓 able to take on a lot of responsibility, where before I couldn鈥檛 even take care of myself.鈥�

Kayle is working at Volken鈥檚 Market temporarily until he begins a business course at Discovery College.

鈥淣ext May, I will also attend a hair cutting course, which my band will be funding,鈥� Speck says. 鈥淚鈥檓 hoping to open my own hair salon, and the business training I鈥檒l receive at Discovery College will be very helpful for that.鈥�

Speck enjoys his time working at the Volken鈥檚 Market snack bar, where they sell delicious wraps, sandwiches and salads 鈥� you can even order their tasty Snack Bar Platters and Deli Platters !

鈥淧eople come in for our frappucinos and lattes,鈥� Speck says. 鈥淏ut what they really love are our chicken paninis 鈥� they always sell out!鈥�
