That diversity has been a winning feature since Flaming Ice opened its doors last spring.

As Kanwar met locals and visitors from around the globe, they piqued his interest in some of the unique flavours not often found on the typical restaurant menu, like Peri Peri, jerk, tandoori and others.

鈥淭he response has been really excellent and our customers are still giving us ideas for new things to try,鈥� says Kanwar, who brings a lifelong passion for cooking to his kitchen.

Moving to Vancouver in the 1990s, he recalls expanding his recipe repertoire with his roommates as each took a turn at preparing something new.

House-made flavours

All sauces are made in-house from scratch and not all are spicy, Kanwar says, pointing to the smoky barbecue and lemon and herb sauces that have their champions among his regular customers.

The choice to flame-grill the meats was a natural. Not only does it provide a healthier option than fried food but it simply tastes better, infusing the meat with more flavour, Kanwar says. 鈥淚t鈥檚 more time-consuming, but people really like the taste.鈥�

Other must-try items include their twist on the traditional kebab, not to mention chicken wings and nachos, easily enjoyed within the comfortable setting.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a unique menu but one our customers seem to enjoy. We鈥檙e always happy when we see them finish their meal with a smile on their face.鈥�

Not only does Kanwar鈥檚 team serve up a delicious variety of fresh-made fare, but there鈥檚 also some great deals to be enjoyed. Students and seniors receive 10 per cent off all day, while happy hour runs from 2 to 6 p.m. daily, with special pricing on appetizers, house lager and bar drinks.

Family meals are another savings option, and feature chicken or chicken and fish.
