On Nov. 4-5 some popular Vancouver Canucks of the past will again skate in 性视界传媒 during a two-day hockey tournament that raises money for Canucks Autism Network.
The fifth annual returns to North 性视界传媒 Sport & Ice Complex where 18 former NHLers, including Todd Bertuzzi, Brendan Morrison and Geoff Courtnall, played with (and against) amateurs at last year鈥檚 event.
Tourney regulars Morrison, Brad May and Kirk McLean are back, joined by newcomers including Michael Del Zotto, Frank Corrado and Darcy Hordichuk, among others.
To play, the 18 rec teams raise a minimum of $25,000 for , or around $1,500 per player on a roster of 17. Due to 鈥渙verwhelming interest,鈥 the 2023 tournament is open to returning teams only.
The 2023 fundraising goal is $850,000, up from $750,000 a year ago.
鈥淚t鈥檚 $100,000 more because the demand for our programs continues to rise, and we just simply can鈥檛 keep up,鈥 said Lindsay Petrie, CAN marketing and communications director.
鈥淲e have some really committed teams that fundraise year after year, so they get first right of refusal to play again the following year,鈥 Petrie added.
鈥淏ecause the popularity of this event is rising every year, we have a long wait list of players who want to play. At this stage in the game, we are very much full. All the teams were thrilled to sign on again this year, and I expect the same for next year.鈥

STORY:
Teams play three games in North 性视界传媒, typically two Saturday and one Sunday.
The weekend kicks off Friday, Nov. 3, with a at Parq Hotel Vancouver and Draft Night event at the Good Co. bar on Granville Street.
鈥淭he more funds your team raises, the higher you draft,鈥 notes . 鈥淥nce you鈥檝e called your NHL alumni on stage, the rest of the evening is for your team to game plan, share stories and enjoy some drinks with your new ringer.鈥
For 2023, the list of 18 draftable players includes Meghan Agosta, Matthew Barnaby, Frank Corrado, Michael Del Zotto, Cody Hodgson, Darcy Hordichuk, David Jones, Jyrki Lumme, Brad May, Kirk McLean, Brendan Morrison, Mason Raymond, Cliff Ronning, Derek Roy, Peter Schaefer, Todd Simpson and Kyle Turris.
Presented by Dallas Watt Demo Ltd., CAN Pro-Am features a wide range of skill levels, and each player is asked to provide their skill level during registration. 鈥淭his allows us to assess each team鈥檚 overall skill level and attempt to group teams together accordingly,鈥 says a webpost.
In B.C., CAN offers programs to close to 9,000 families with children, youth and adults on the autism spectrum.
鈥淲e have wait lists for almost every program we run,鈥 Petrie noted. 鈥淲e just can鈥檛 keep up with the demand, and we certainly need more support from our community. This event (CAN Pro-Am) helps raise substantial funds for us, but it鈥檚 not enough.鈥
On , tickets are $375 for the Nov. 3 luncheon at the Parq, or $3,000 for a table of eight. The event will feature a 鈥淕loves Off Panel鈥 of Brad May, Darcy Hordichuk and Matthew Barnaby.
