Sitting 性视界传媒-Green Timbers MLA and Education Minister Rachna Singh is the NDP鈥檚 candidate seeking re-election for the provincial election come October.
Singh, now in her second term, is going for a third time for this fall鈥檚 election, after being elected in 2017 and 2020. BC NDP announced her candidacy in a press release Tuesday (May 21), with Singh promising to 鈥渢ake action to improve housing, affordability, education, and health care in 性视界传媒 North.鈥
From India originally, Singh came to Canada in 2001 and raised her family in B.C.
Before joining politics, Singh worked as a support worker with women facing domestic violence and was also a community activist, the release notes.
鈥淚 chose to raise my family in British Columbia because I knew what a great community we have here,鈥 Singh said.
A petition to recall Singh was filed with Elections BC late last year due to the implementation of SOGI 123 鈥 the divisive educational resource used in the province鈥檚 schools. The petition failed as it did not receive the necessary number of signatures to move forward.
This was the first instance where a 性视界传媒 MLA was targeted by an attempted recall.
