A proposed development featuring 282 apartments at 6396 King George Boulevard that's intended to revitalize the northern part of a long-vacant lot where the used to be is up for a third-reading council vote following a public hearing tonight, Monday Jan. 13.
The southern part of the land, where the public market building was located at 6338 King George Blvd. is home to a townhouse and apartment project with construction underway after the market building was demolished in 2017. The site was subdivided into three parcels in 2014.
This latest proposal is a four-building package which also features stores, a restaurant and childcare centre and if approved, according to the 性视界传媒 School District, it's expected 44 school-age children will live there with 26 to attend North Ridge Elementary School, 11 to attend Panorama Ridge Secondary School and the rest to attend classes in other districts, private schools, or to be home-schooled.
If approved, the applicant (a numbered company) told council, the dwellings will be ready for occupancy in late 2027.
The ruin of the old market, built in the 1980s, was an eyesore for nearly two decades at the southeast corner of 64 Avenue and the George.
