Police are currently on the scene of a serious assault at a home in North Delta.

According to a DPD press release, a man has been arrested and one person has been transported to hospital with serious injuries following an incident in the 8000-block of 117th Street at around 1:20 p.m. on Thursday (Dec. 19).

"Investigators have confirmed this is not a random attack and there is no public safety risk."

A Black Press Media freelancer on scene reports a woman with serious stab injuries was located outside the home. Police have since confirmed the victim's gender but not the mechanism of injury.

The street between 80th and 80A Avenue is closed, and investigators will be on scene for the next several hours.

Officers attended McCloskey Elementary as a precaution, but did not initiate a hold-and-secure or other action at the school.
