A new Costco location may be coming to South ÐÔÊӽ紫ý to be the second location in the city.
With an application in process at the City of ÐÔÊӽ紫ý, the construction of a new Costco store is still in the early stages, the city's communications representative confirmed to Peace Arch News.
The development application proposes a new Costco at 1891 and 1947 164 St. in the broader Grandview area of South ÐÔÊӽ紫ý.
"The application is at a preliminary stage of review, and aspects of the proposal may change as it is reviewed further," reads a statement from the city's planning and development department.
The proposal will be on the table for council in the fall or winter to decide on further, the department shared. An existing Costco location sits in the Newton neighbourhood of ÐÔÊӽ紫ý.
Social media posts online indicate that residents in the area have received city notices in the mail, in the case of anyone wanting to submit input to the city planners on the proposal.
The form posted online shows that the Highway 99 Corridor Local Area Plan would see changes made if the retailer proposal proceeds. A portion of the site would change to commercial status, from business and industrial.
A large store and adjacent gas station are being proposed for the location, with 989 parking spots and the building 10 metres in height.
Costco would not comment on the potential for a new store location in ÐÔÊӽ紫ý, sharing that the company only comments on new locations two to three months before opening.
