UPDATE: Fatal crash on Lougheed

A late night motor vehicle accident cut power to the area

The driver of a car that crashed on Lougheed Hwy. near 240th Street just before midnight Tuesday died, according to Ridge Meadows RCMP.

鈥淚t was just before midnight,鈥 said Sgt. Brenda Gresiuk, adding that RCMP were told that ambulance and fire serivces were responding to a single vehicle accident.

According to Gresiuk, the vehicle veered off the road. RCMP are still investigating the details and cause of the crash.

The deceased is a Maple Ridge man. His identity has not been released.

He was the lone occupant in a Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck at the time of the crash. Three other vehicles became involved after the initial crash, as they came into contact with debris from the power pole, police said.

One male driver from the secondary collisions with the debris was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The B.C. Coroners Service confirmed it is investigating the death.

The car hit a power pole and according to B.C. Hydro, 335 customers in the Albion and Cottonwood neighborhoods were without power as of 11:46 p.m. Tuesday.

Power is now restored.

Hydro crews were on scene working to replace a damaged pole.

According to the latest ICBC crash statistics available, there were 217 crashes at Lougheed Hwy. near 240th St. between 2011 and 2015.
