More police in ÐÔÊӽ紫ý will be patrolling throughout the city tonight in an effort to keep drunk drivers off the streets.
"The focus as always on New Year's is being on the lookout for impaired drivers," says Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton, of the ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Police Service. "There'll be some road blocks; there'll be a few roving around at different locations."
Revealing where they'll be would "kind of defeat the purpose," he added.
"It's a good message for us to get out, we always want to make sure that people are arranging for rides home," he said. "There's certain locations that are higher traffic locations that we want to be able to set up in because it funnels more people through, like interchanges and off the highway off-ramps. We don't want to reveal the locations because obviously if someone is regrettably driving impaired we want to be able to take them off the road to keep everybody safe.
"Booze, pot and everything in between. If you're consuming anything you shouldn't be, arrange for a ride."
