South ÐÔÊӽ紫ý, Crescent Beach and Panorama Ridge have all been the sites of recent break-and-enters — and police are warning homeowners to be on the lookout for suspicious activity.
According to a ÐÔÊӽ紫ý RCMP release, "large-scale homes" in these neighbourhoods have been targeted by the suspects, with the crime also being linked to other parts of the Lower Mainland.
"Investigators believe the thieves are surveilling properties before they strike; therefore, we encourage residents to keep their homes secure, look out for each other as neighbours and call police to report any suspicious activity or suspicious individuals," ÐÔÊӽ紫ý RCMP media relations officer Sgt. Tammy Lobb states in the release.
Police say the suspects are believed to be a team of three in each incident. They target the homes in the evenings, between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., when they are empty. To get inside the homes, police say the suspects break the glass on the patio door and typically steal cash, jewelry, purses, watches and other high-value items.
Three suspect descriptions have been released by police, who indicate that all three are males, wear hoodies, dark-coloured sweatpants and balaclavas to cover their face.
The first suspect stands six-foot-three and is "heavy built," while the second has a muscular build and is six feet tall. The third has a slender build and is five-foot-eight.
"All three suspects tighten their hood strings around their balaclavas to conceal their facial features," the release notes.
Residents of the neighbourhoods may see an increased police presence as they conduct more patrols in the areas of ÐÔÊӽ紫ý. RCMP is also educating residents on home security, Lobb added.
Anyone with information on the break-and-enters is asked to contact ÐÔÊӽ紫ý RCMP at 604-599-0502.
