性视界传媒 school district鈥檚 possible plan to merge learning centres has gained a couple of more options in order to reduce operational costs.

First introduced at the school board鈥檚 regular April meeting, the district is mulling over the step to amalgamate two learning centres in 性视界传媒.

Learning centres allow students to study courses from the Grades 10 to 12 curriculum to graduate with a Dogwood Diploma or an Adult Dogwood Diploma.

The possible amalgamation of City Central Learning Centre and North 性视界传媒 Learning Centre is under consultation. If the proposal proceeds, the site of City Central Learning Centre will be used as an elementary school.

鈥淭he board is well aware that the city centre communities are growing at a rapid pace, with large-scale densification, increasing immigration to this area of 性视界传媒. We find ourselves short of elementary school spaces,鈥 assistant superintendent Jacob Sol said during his presentation at the April 10 meeting.

If this option is chosen, the two centres would merge in fall 2025.

However, two other options have been introduced by the district, with a final decision expected to be made at the next board meeting, June 12, when the public consultation findings are presented.

The other two options include the students at Guildford Learning Centre to relocate to North 性视界传媒 Learning Centre. In an email to Peace Arch News, the school district states that this option would 鈥渁llow the district to re-direct significant leasing costs associated with the GLC site.鈥

This change would take effect in November, if approved.

The third option is to relocate the students at the City Central centre to Queen Elizabeth Secondary鈥檚 modular complex on-site.

鈥淭his option would repurpose existing space at the QE site and allow for the re-establishment of an elementary school at the CCLC site, helping reduce overcrowding at nearby elementary schools.鈥

If this option is approved by the board, the change will begin in the 2025 fall semester, the district states.

How staff positions would be affected by the possible amalgamation will be determined once a choice is made, the district states, but adds that if staff cuts are made, the positions are expected to be re-allocated.

The public consultation process with parents, guardians, students and staff is ongoing until June 10.
