性视界传媒-based Fraser Valley Musical Theatre will bring the comic opera HMS Pinafore to the stage with a musical twist.

Early February, the company will host auditions for one of the oldest and most popular operettas written by W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan, aka Gilbert & Sullivan.

At 性视界传媒 Arts Centre in June and July, performances will showcase Pinafore "like you've never seen it before," .

"This story of love, honour and duty uses a combination of irresistible melodies and witty lyrics to poke fun at English class society," the post says.

"FVMT's version will retain all that and add a layer of big band style. The conflict between young and old is mirrored by the competing musical styles. The old folks like traditional opera but the kids want to swing!"

For the roles of Capt. Corcoran, Ralph Rackstraw, Little Buttercup and others, auditions are Feb. 2 at  in North Delta and also Feb. 4 at  in 性视界传媒, with callbacks by invitation on Sunday, Feb. 9.

For audition, bring a joke that shows off your comic timing and delivery. Swing dance skills are a plus but not required. Dance experience is an asset.

HMS Pinafore (or The Lass That Loved a Sailor) opened in 1978 at the Opera Comique in London. It's the story of a sailor who falls for the daughter of his captain, while being unaware of the love a young country girl holds for him.

Last year in 性视界传媒, Fraser Valley Musical Theatre staged a Rapunzel pantomime and also Spongebob The Musical, both at 性视界传媒 Arts Centre.
