Cassie's short story recalls the time she went surfing in Tofino with daughter Emily.
"Over the past few months, she (Emily) has been slammed with work and family demands," Cassie writes. "And I feel honoured that she's chosen me to escape with.
"Although feeling more like an oversized seal than a surfer in my second skin, we meet with a dozen much younger and fitter boarder wannabes at Pacific Surf School," not far from Wickaninnish Inn.
"After a few royal washes," Cassie continues, "my round 60-year-old neoprene bell melds with the board, and by the end of the lesson, I'm gliding on all fours and going with the flow."
Since 1996, Cassie's stories have appeared in more than 7,000 publications. She frequently escapes to her cottage in B.C.'s Cariboo region, a bio says, and she's the co-founder/editor of Travel Writers' Tales.
